Checking your ActiveX Settings

These directions are a general reference to enabling ActiveX within Internet Explorer.

ETI currently supports the Skills Survey under the following web browsers:

Internet Explorer 5.5
Internet Explorer 6

Instructions on turning on ActiveX in Internet Explorer:

  1. Under the Windows Start menu, select the Settings | Control Panel command.
  2. Double-click on the Internet Options icon in the Control Panel window.
  3. Select the Security tab in the Internet Properties dialog box.
  4. Make sure that the Internet zone is selected.
  5. Click on the Default Level to make sure that the Internet zone is at the Medium level.
  6. Push the Custom Level... button.
  7. Scroll down to the setting labelled "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting" in the Security Settings Dialog box and check the Enabled option.
  8. Click the Ok button in the Security Settings Dialog box.
  9. Click the Ok button in the Internet properties dialog box.
  10. To test to make sure that ActiveX controls have been properly enabled, close this window and refresh the Internet Explorer window that is displaying your Broswer Test results. ActiveX should now show as working. If it does not, your company's IT department may be blocking ActiveX via the corporate firewall or some other method. You will need to contact your IT department to see if they can allow ActiveX content from the www.etinews.com and etinews.com domains.
