The new ASME Y14.5 standard is estimated to be published in April 2009. This date could change if problems arise during approvals. It will probably take 8-12 months for the certification exam to be updated.

Once a person is certified, they need to recertify (no test, only a fee) every three years or their certification lapses. Once certification lapses, a person needs to take the test over to be certified again.
Thanks,
Alex

I'm planning on taking the GD&T certification when the new standard comes out. Do you know when the projected release date is?

Also, if you are certified under the 1994 standard is it necessary to recertify under the new Revision? I have a colleague that is certified about 10 years ago and wasn't sure if he needed to take the test again once the new standard comes out in order to maintain his certification.

Thanks
